The dry air experienced during the winter months is an integral factor in creating dry skin problems. Heating systems to warm homes and offices, most commonly forced-air heat, wrings even more moisture out of the already dry air. You Can Help Prevent Measles in Allamakee County

The United States is currently experiencing a large, multi-state outbreak of measles linked to an amusement park in California. More than 100 people from 14 states in the U.S. (AZ, CA, CO, IL, MI, MN, NE, NY, OR, PA, SD, TX, UT, WA) have been confirmed as having measles. As of now, there are no confirmed measles cases in Iowa.      

The best way to prevent measles is to get the measles-mumps-rubella shot (called MMR). Two doses of MMR will provide more than 99 percent of people lifelong protection against measles.

New You Self-Improvement Class Scheduled for March 11 at VMH

The second “New Year, New You” self improvement class offered at Veterans Memorial Hospital will be held on Wednesday, March 11 at 5:00 p.m.  Jill Fleming, RD/LD, Veterans Memorial Hospital dietitian, will be continuing her 2015 series of six, fun and simple self improvement classes, presenting “Learn to Love Your Body” which will include optimal health and self-image improvement strategies.

Prepared Childbirth Education Classes start April 6th

Veterans Memorial Hospital will begin the next Prepared Childbirth Education classes (formerly called Lamaze) on Monday, April 6, and will continue for three consecutive Monday evenings beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Large Conference Room.
