17th Annual Women’s Health Day Luncheon

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital and Elliott Jewelers of Waukon hosted their 17th Annual Women’s Health Day Luncheon on Tuesday, September 27, at the Waukon Banquet Center.  Over 120 ladies attended the delicious sandwich and salad luncheon hosted by the Auxiliary members, plus many free health and wellness tests were available.

The theme for this year’s event was “Embrace Allamakee County.”   Speakers included Val Reinke of Allamakee County Economic Development; Michelle Crary, Family Nurse Practitioner and the new full-time provider at the VMH Postville Clinic;  Tara Fink, who is the new Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner beginning at Veterans Memorial Hospital on October 17; and Michael Coyle, CEO of Veterans Memorial Hospital.

In order to follow the theme, “Embrace Allamakee County,” caramel apple sundaes were served as dessert compliments of Peake Orchards in rural Waukon and Val Miller of Steel Cow donated 22 fresh floral arrangements from her fresh flower cart which is located outside the Steel Cow, downtown Waukon.  In addition, donations were made by Quillin’s, Fareway and Dollar Fresh as well as many Auxiliary members.

Amber Chicken was the lucky winner of the Ladies’ 14kt white gold chocolate and white diamond fashion pendant (retail price $849) compliments of Elliott Jewelers of Waukon.    Pictured above, at right, is Amber with her new diamond necklace along with Shelly Elliott of Elliott Jewelers, at left.  Proceeds from this event will be used to purchase new carbon monoxide monitors for the hospital Emergency Rooms and a new portable O2 monitor for the Maternity Services Department at the hospital.
