Auxiliary
The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital is devoted to providing the hospital and its patients and visitors with many services. The Auxiliary meets monthly the 2nd Monday of each month, at 1:00 p.m., in the ICN Conference Room at Veterans Memorial Hospital. They also hold a monthly Euchre Marathon tournament to raise funds the third Thursday of each month. Auxiliary membership dues are just $5.00 for active members and $12.00 for inactive members. Dues can be paid at the main entrance to Veterans Memorial Hospital or given to any current Auxiliary member.
The Auxiliary also holds annual fundraisers, such as the Women’s Health Day Luncheon each fall, the Pillow-Perk and the Masquerade jewelry and accessories sale, both in October.
All the money the Auxiliary receives goes back to the hospital for equipment. Over the years, they have purchased numerous items for the hospital, including a new patient weigh bed, maternity services birthing beds, a new mammography viewbox, digital cameras, ice machines, a chemotherapy chair, blanket warmers, a NuStep exercise machine, an EKG machine, flat screen TV’s for all the patient rooms, a labor tub, a fetal heart monitor and infant warmer, a noninvasive transcutaneous bilirubinometer, assisted with the purchase of the new 3D digital mammography machine and most recently paid for the renovation of our outpatient treatment room.
The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial strives to have a variety of gifts available at all times in their Gift Case located in the front lobby of the hospital. This Gift Case is filled with useful, creative and seasonal items, many hand-made and all reasonably priced. These tasteful gifts are appropriate not just for hospital patients, but for friends and family members as well. Pictured is Janet Palmer, Gift Case Coordinator for the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital. Janet refills the case on a regular basis, keeping the items fresh and new and timed perfectly to each season.
“Every dollar taken in through the Auxiliary Gift Case is given back to the hospital facility and community, with no administrative costs,” states Janet. “I enjoy this project because the items purchased by the Auxiliary go to benefit the community which even includes my family.”
The Auxiliary Gift Case also offers the hospital’s cookbook and many useful hospital items such as lunch bags, water mugs, re-usable grocery bags, etc. Purchases from the gift case are quickly and conveniently made with help from the hospital receptionist.
