New EPIC Electronic Heath Record Live for One Week Veterans Memorial Hospital!
Our new EPIC Electronic Health Record has been live for one week, after an entire year of preparation by the hospital and clinic staff, with the help of the University of Iowa Health Care team.
One of the biggest advantages of transitioning to the EPIC system is the availability of the MyChart patient portal. Many individuals in the area already have a MyChart account from other health care facilities. Veterans Memorial Hospital is now linked with this portal.
Patients will be sent a link to sign-up for MyChart when they make their next appointment for care at either the Waukon or Postville Clinic, and with any departments at Veterans Memorial Hospital. A link will also be emailed following any visit to the clinics or hospital. Patients will have 30 days to log in and sign-up for MyChart and start to enjoy all of the following benefits:
- Increased patient engagement by seeing all of your health information in one place.
- Receiving test results more quickly.
- Taking care of your children and other family members who need extra help all from your account.
- Requesting appointments, prescription refills and even ask your provider questions through the use of this MyChart patient portal.
Veterans Memorial Hospital and Clinics has materials and staff available to help patients get signed up to the MyChart portal at their next appointment, and if they have a current account, help them link it with this new local system.
ALL patients, even if returning for regular therapy multiple times per week, need to check in at the reception desk upon entering the hospital. Insurance cards will need to be shared as the staff will need to scan and enter all information into each patient’s account since this system is brand new. The hospital and clinics would like to forewarn their patients that this process may delay their check-in the first time after beginning this new system and asks for understanding as they undergo this transition.
