Over 200 Enjoy Veterans Memorial Hospital “Family Wellness Fair” on May 14

The Veterans Memorial Hospital “Family Wellness Fair” welcomed a crowd of over 200 visitors this year during their Hospital Week celebration.  Visitors toured the Medical Clinic, Hospital and Gundersen Clinic in their route to the over 40 booths and educational displays, demonstrations, activities, and give-aways provided by the numerous agencies who service Allamakee and northern Clayton counties

Those who attended and shared displays included Allamakee Emergency Management, Allamakee Substance Abuse Prevention and the Waukon Police Department, Ask Resources Center, Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa, Good Samaritan Society, Emplify by Gundersen Health and Vision Clinics, Helping Services for Youth and Family, Helping Services for Youth and Family-Allamakee Prevention Advisory and Hidden in Plain Sight, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Northeast Iowa Behavioral Health, Northgate Care Center, St. Croix Hospice, Steel Cow Lavendar Farm, TASC, Village Creek Bible Camp, Visiting Nurse Association-WIC,  Waukon Dental, Waukon Fire Department, Waukon Lions Club and Waukon Wellness Center/Waukon Park & Rec.  Nearly 20 different hospital departments participated with educational and interactive booths as well. 

Entertainment for the evening included balloon artist Mike Chapman, face painting by Claire Butchkoski, Paramedic, the NEW Waukon Fire Department fire truck and hospital ambulance all on site. 

Gundersen Clinic welcomed guests with a health carnival with many fun educational games and contests for kids, all surrounding their health and vision.

This family event is held each Spring on the hospital campus and is free and open to all members of the area communities.
