New Nurse Practitioner, Hannah Kelly, NP, Joins Waukon and Postville Medical Clinics

Veterans Memorial Hospital welcomes Hannah (Gesing) Kelly, Nurse Practitioner, to their health care team serving clinic patients in both the Waukon and Postville Clinic locations. Kelly will be seeing patients in the Waukon Clinic on Wednesdays and Thursdays and will care for patients at the Postville Clinic on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Kelly grew up on a family livestock and crop farm south of Waukon. After her college graduation, she began her nursing career at St. Mary’s Hospital (Mayo) in Rochester on a progressive care unit, caring for vascular surgery and cardiac medical patients. After 6 years, she changed roles to a procedural sedation nurse in Interventional Radiology at Mayo. The past two years, she has been closer to home, working in the OR as a surgical nurse at WinnMed in Decorah, while finishing her family nurse practitioner master’s program.
“I decided to become a family nurse practitioner to continue to care for a variety of demographics of patients in a different setting. I have always loved the variety and unpredictability of nursing, and family practice is able to provide this,” states Kelly. “I also look forward to being able to develop long-term patient relationships that have not been possible in my previous roles.”
Kelly will begin seeing patients October 6, providing a full-scope of family practice care in both Waukon and Postville. She is offering care for all ages and will have same-day appointments available for all acute patients.
When asked why she chose to join this medical practice, she states, “I was blessed to be able to spend last summer doing clinicals at the VMH Waukon Clinic with nurse practitioner Sue McMillan and could not have asked for a warmer, more welcoming experience. I loved the supportive, low-anxiety atmosphere of the clinic and felt that it would be a fantastic location to learn and grow as a new nurse practitioner.”
“We are so excited to have Hannah joining our clinic team and helping us serve both communities,” stated Laura Baxter, RN, Waukon and Postville Clinic Director. “Hannah will be another provider to join our team that decided to return and help provide healthcare for the community that she grew up in. We are lucky to have her joining us!”
“The things that bring me joy are providing care and problem-solving. As a healthcare provider, I am able to do both of these while making a meaningful difference in people’s lives,” adds Kelly. “Healthcare never fails to challenge and provide opportunities to learn even more; this is what motivates me. I honestly enjoy and look forward to all the different areas of family practice. I love seeing families and am particularly interested in women’s health and pediatrics. I still consider Waukon my hometown, of course! I know how hardworking and kindhearted the people of Allamakee County are, and I am happy to be able to provide care to them.”
