Posted September 7, 2026
Dr. Olaitan Akinbobye will begin seeing patients in the Veterans Memorial Hospital Postville and Waukon Clinics this week.  He states, “I am honored to serve the families of northeast Iowa and look forward to building long-term relationships rooted in trust, education, and a shared goal of keeping our community healthy and vibrant”.  Dr. Akinboboye will again add a physician choice to the Postville Clinic, following the retirement of Dr. Thomas McMullan last November.  Appointments can be scheduled now by calling the Postville Medicine Clinic at 563-864-7221 or the Waukon Clinic at 563-568-5530.

The new family practice physician, Dr. Olaitan Akinboboye, begins seeing patients this week at the Veterans Memorial Hospital Postville and Waukon Clinic.  He will be caring for patients in the Waukon Clinic each Monday and the Postville Clinic on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week.

Dr. Akinboboye will again add a physician choice to the Postville Clinic, following the retirement of Dr. Thomas McMullan last November.  He will join nurse practitioners Minji Ransom, NP; Katie Maker, NP/Nurse Midwife; Hannah Kelly, NP; Mason Kerian NP; and Alex Berns, NP, who all provide family medicine one to two days a week at the Postville Clinic as well as at the Waukon Clinic.

“I have always been passionate about rural medicine because it allows for a deeper, more personal connection with patients across their entire lives. I was deeply impressed by Veterans Memorial Hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality, 'close-to-home' care,” explains Dr. Akinboboye when commenting on rural medicine.  “It is rare to find a facility that combines such advanced clinical standards with a true family atmosphere, and I am honored to join a team that shares my dedication to accessible, patient-centered healthcare.”

Dr. Akinboboye looks forward to caring for a variety of patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors.

“I have a special interest in Chronic Disease Management and Preventive Medicine, as I believe in partnering with patients to stop health issues before they start. Additionally, I have specialized interests in Sleep Medicine and Addiction Medicine, providing essential support for conditions that deeply impact a person’s quality of life. I also enjoy the 'hands-on' side of family medicine and am pleased to offer a variety of in-office procedures—such as joint injections, skin biopsies, and nail avulsions—so that my patients can receive the specialized care they need right here in Waukon without having to travel” adds Dr. Akinboboye.

He was recognized for academic excellence Physiology and Dermatology when he received his medical degree with distinction from the Obafemi Awolowo University.  He earned a PhD in Public Health and an MPH in Epidemiology, providing a high-level expertise in population health and disease prevention.  He is proficient in a wide range of in-office procedures published and conducted epidemiologic research focused on improving community health outcomes and preventive care strategies.  In addition, he is dedicated to developing patient education and wellness programs to bridge the gap between clinical care and everyday health.

“I want my patients to know that I view healthcare as a true partnership. My goal is to provide compassionate, personalized care that treats you as an individual, not just a diagnosis. I believe that listening is the most important tool I have as a physician. Whether we are focused on wellness and prevention or managing a complex chronic condition, I am committed to providing practical, evidence-based care that fits your unique lifestyle. I am honored to serve the families of northeast Iowa and look forward to building long-term relationships rooted in trust, education, and a shared goal of keeping our community healthy and vibrant”.

Appointments are now being accepted for Dr. Akinboboye.  Patients are invited to call the Postville Clinic to schedule an appointment with Dr. Olaitan Akinboboye at 563-864-7221 or the Waukon Clinic at 563-568-5530.
