The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital, Elliott Jewelers and the Waukon Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Wellness Night Out will be held on Tuesday, September 1, from 4-7 pm at the Allamakee Fairgrounds Pavilion.  The theme for this event is “The Strength Within.”

A total of seven different speakers on a variety of popular health and wellness topics will outline the night at very specific times so guests can come and go throughout the evening if they wish.  The doors will open at 4:00 pm with the first 200 ladies attending receiving a goodie bag filled with information, freebies and coupons.  The first hour, ladies will have time to wind around the 50 health and wellness vendors that will be on site sharing information, drawings and giveaways.

Refreshments will be served throughout the evening, including pulled-pork sandwiches, chips, fresh vegetables and a great variety of hors d’oeuvres and sweets all served by the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital.  A cash bar will also be available.

The first speaker will then take the stage at 5:00 pm with the topic, “The Gift of Joy, Laughter and Friendship” presented by cancer survivor Barb Winters-Kelly.   At 5:15 pm, Shawn Blake, Certified Registered Nuse Anesthetist and VMH Pain Clinic provider, will share his message, “Understanding Pain, Restoring Wellness: Being Strong Enough to Ask for Help.”  Following Shawn, a t5:30 pm, Dana Hageman, Director of Northeast Iowa RSVP, will share “The Top 10 Red Flags for Fraud and Scams,” who will then be followed by a short break.  During the break time, ladies are invited to again visit all of the vendors and enjoy more refreshments.

At 6:00 pm, the program will continue with an educational session called, “Know Yourself, Lead Yourself,” shared by Kristy Turner of Mindful Solutions and Mediation, Postville.  At 6:15 pm, Waukon Medical Clinic Family Nurse Practitioner, Sue McMillan, will take the stage and deliver, “The to 10 Issues in Women’s Health-Staying Strong.”  Following Sue, a very heartfelt message will be shared by two breast cancer survivors, Kathy Hager and Sheryl Darling-Mooney, who will together deliver their message on how “Being Proactive Can Lead to Prevention.”  And wrapping up the program again this year, tying in the event’s theme, will be Jill Fleming, Health and Wellness Coach, sharing how “Being Strong Doesn’t Always Feel Strong,”

Door prizes will be drawn during the intermission with the grand jewelry raffle prize being drawn at the end of the evening.  Visitors need not be present to win the grand prize, but do need to be present to win the door prizes.

Admission to the entire event will be a $15 raffle ticket for a chance to win a Ladies natural Malachite & diamond fashion pendant, set in 14kt yellow gold on 18” diamond cut cable chain, donated by Elliott Jewelers of Waukon (retail value $1499).  Elliott’s add, “Malachite has long been treasured as a stone of protection, transformation, and emotional balance.  For centuries, it has been worn as a symbol of growth, courage, and renewal, with many believing it encourages positive change.”

Tickets are on sale now for this event at Elliott Jewelers, the Waukon Chamber of Commerce office, and Veterans Memorial Hospital, as well as the Waukon and Postville Clinics.  Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used by the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital to purchase an electric exam table for the Waukon Clinic.  Tickets for the event will also be sold at the door.
