Women's Wellness Night Out Success Hosts Record Crowd
The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital & Clinics, Elliott Jewelers and Waukon Chamber of Commerce hosted their “Women’s Wellness Night Out,” on September 1 at the Allamakee Fairgrounds Pavilion and welcomed a record crowd of nearly 250 ladies attending. The event hosted seven different presentations, all circling the theme “The Strength Within,” including the following: Barb Winters-Kelly with “The Gift of Joy, Laughter and Friendship;” Shawn Blake, CRNA of Veterans Memorial Hospital’s Pain Clinic with “Understanding Pain, Restoring Wellness and Being Strong Enough to Ask for Help;” Deana Hagman, Director of Northeast Iowa RSVP with “Top 10 Red Flags for Fraud and Scams;” Kristy Turner of Mindful Solutions and Mediation, with “Know Yourself, Lead Yourself;” Sue McMillan, Family Nurse Practitioner at the Waukon Clinic, with the “Top 10 Issues in Women’s Health-Staying Strong;” Kathy Hager and Sheryl Darling-Mooney, both medical professionals and breast cancer survivors, who shared how “Being Proactive Can Lead to Prevention;” and Jill Fleming, Dietitian and Health and Wellness Coach who ended the event with, “Being Strong Doesn’t Always Feel Strong.”
Sandwiches, desserts and a variety of hors d’oeuvres were served compliments of the ladies Auxiliary and Rachel Curtin Catering, and a cash bar was hosted by the pavilion staff. Over 40 area family service organizations were present as vendors with information and giveaways as well as many hospital staff offering free health and wellness testing.
Esther (Essie) Welsh of Lansing was the lucky winner of the Ladies natural Malachite & diamond fashion pendant, set in 14kt yellow gold on 18” diamond cut cable chain (retail value $1499), compliments of Elliott Jewelers, Waukon. Proceeds from this event will be used to purchase a new electronic exam table for the Waukon Medical Clinic.
