Women’s Wellness Night Out This Thursday!

The Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital, Elliott Jewelers and the Waukon Chamber of Commerce’s Women’s Wellness Night Out will be held this Thursday, September 11, from 4-7 pm at the Allamakee Fairgrounds Pavilion.  The doors will open at 4:00 pm with the first 200 ladies attending receiving a goodie bag filled with information, freebies and coupons.  Hors d’oeuvres will be provided by the Auxiliary members, available and enjoyed throughout the evening, along with a cash bar hosted by the Allamakee Fairgrounds Pavilion.

A total of seven different speakers on a variety of popular health and wellness topics will outline the night at very specific times so guests can come and go throughout the evening if they wish.   The first speakers will take the stage at 4:15 pm with the topic, “Move Well, Live Well,” by Amy Robinson, Rehabilitation Director at Veterans Memorial Hospital and Jordan Cunningham of 222 Trained.  At 4:40 pm, Jill Fleming, Health and Wellness Coach, will discuss how to “Make Peace with Anxiety.”  Following, at 5:05 pm, the new providers just starting this month at VMH Waukon Clinic, Hannah Kelly, Family Nurse Practitioner; Janet Hunter, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner; and Angie Taylor, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, will all introduce themselves and discuss the importance of mental health and what they can do to help.  At 5:30 pm, Brandy Strub, Dietitian and Dietary Manager at Veterans Memorial Hospital will cover the topic of “Diet and Inflammation.”At 5:30 pm, Brandy Strub, Dietitian and Dietary Manager at Veterans Memorial Hospital will cover the topic of “Diet and Inflammation.” Following that, at 5:55 pm, Barb Shull, Senior Vice President, adn Krista Fiscchwer, Senior Vice President/IT Officer, both of Freedom Bank, will give an informative talk on "Bank Scams, Computer Scams, and Phishing.  Cathy Buhl of Edward Jones will follow with advice on retirement plans with her talk on “Leave It, Move It, Roll It, Take It: Know Your Employer Retirement Plan Options.”  The final speaker of the night will again be Jill Fleming, Health and Wellness Coach, as she concludes the evening with humorous and useful advice on “Clutter-LET IT GO!” phenomenal

A 10 minute break will be held between each speaker giving time to visit the 50 health, wellness and family agencies/vendors on site ready to visit about the services they offer.  Numerous Veterans Memorial Hospital departments will be offering free health testing and education including free blood pressure checks, blood sugar screenings, hemoglobin iron screenings, ‘Be the Match’ swabbing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, Infusions, Podiatry, advance directives, MyChart patient portal, surgery services, nutrition, the Waukon and Postville Medical Clinics, the Veterans Memorial Health Care Foundation, etc.

Many other area agencies who service the people within the hospital’s patient area will also be hosting a table. Those agencies to date include:  Ask Resources Center, Allamakee Economic Development, 222 Trained, Good Samaritan Center, Emplify by Gundersen-Waukon Clinic, Helping Services for NE Iowa, Allamakee Prevention Advisory, Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Matt Howe’s Mental Health Today, NICC, Northeast Iowa Agency on Aging, Northeast Iowa Wellness and Recreation Center, Visiting Nurse Association-WIC, Waukon Chamber of Commerce, Waukon Wellness Center, Waukon Dental and the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP.)

Door prizes will be drawn between each speaker with the grand jewelry raffle prize being drawn at the end of the evening.  Visitors need not be present to win the grand prize, but do need to be present to win the door prizes.

            Admission to the entire event will be a $15 raffle ticket for a chance to win a Ladies 14kt rose gold tri-color genuine Amethyst & diamond fashion pendant, on an 18” adjustable chain, (retail value $999), compliments of Elliott Jewelers of Waukon.  They add, “Known as the ‘Tranquility Stone,’ amethyst is believed to help relieve stress and anxiety, while encouraging mental clarity and balance. Tickets are on sale now for this event at Elliott Jewelers, the Waukon Chamber of Commerce office, and Veterans Memorial Hospital, as well as the Waukon and Postville Clinics.  Tickets will also be available at the door.  Proceeds from the ticket sales will be used by the Auxiliary of Veterans Memorial Hospital to purchase a new stove for the Nutrition Department at the hospital.
