Ambulance

In emergencies, seconds count. Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance provides 24 hour emergency services to the residents of Waukon, Allamakee County, and surrounding area.  We are a paramedic provisional service supported by Veterans Memorial Hospital, City of Waukon, and the Rural Ambulance Board.

Our 3 Ambulances respond to more than 600 emergency calls or transfers a year and are staffed with highly trained paramedics, EMTs, RNs, and transfer drivers.  In addition to experienced staff, our ambulances are equipped with:

    • Cardiac Monitors with:
      • the ability to record and transmit EKGs via wireless technology to the hospital’s Emergency Department to help speed up diagnosis of heart conditions that require timely stabilization and transfer to a specialized heart center.
      • Adult and Pediatric Defibrillation
    • Emergency Medications
    • LUCAS or Zoll Chest compression devices
    • Other equipment used to treat many medical or trauma emergencies.

In addition to responding to 911 calls, intercepts, and inter-facility transfers, our ambulance services provides emergency medical service coverage for events in the community (high school sports, Allamakee county fair) and classroom education.

Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance also has a Community Cardiac Arrest Specialty Team (CCAST).
