Respiratory Therapy
Our Respiratory Therapist, Connor Meyer, can help you with your breathing issues. She works with patients of all ages to treat a variety of conditions, such as asthma, COPD, pneumonia, lung cancer, etc.
Lung Health Tips
She recommends the following to keep lungs healthy:
- Exercise at least 30 minutes five days a week while focusing on good quality, consistent breaths.
- Take a break every hour to take in five deep breaths and slowly exhale. This not only helps with your lung capacity but also helps prevent infections from settling in your lungs. Plus, it is a great exercise to reduce stress!
- Drink plenty of water to be sure to stay hydrated.
- Get outside into the fresh air every day!
Quit Smoking
Connor has smoking cessation materials available for the public to help them get started in their journey to quit smoking.
Sleep Studies
We offer sleep studies right here, in our facility, provided by Whitney Diagnostics. We have multiple sleep rooms on the upper level of the hospital to complete the sleep studies in a quiet, restful atmosphere.
Sleep Apnea is a sleep disorder that is caused by brief, repeated episodes of interrupted or shallow breathing during sleep. These episodes can last from a few seconds to several minutes. The symptoms include snoring (which is most common), headaches, daytime sleepiness, frequent wake ups at night, night sweats, waking up out of breath and restlessness.
Our in-lab sleep studies are supervised by a sleep specialist who can diagnose a wide range of sleep disorders, provide accurate results and prescribe proper treatment for you. The sleep technician then visits our facility every Wednesday to get you fitted for a certain mask or answer any of your questions.
To qualify for a sleep study, please schedule an appointment with your primary care provider or a sleep specialist. Discuss with them your sleep symptoms and concerns, and if they believe a sleep study is necessary, they will prescribe it for you.
